The third team of FC De Westhoek from Burgh-Haamstede is the only Zeeland club that still has a chance to play football against FC De Rebelles. Titled: The match of your life. This Sunday, TV channel ESPN will announce which team will experience a true football spectacle on Friday, May 31.

Leader of FC De Westhoek 3, Clement Rijberg, registered his team. “I already wanted to participate in this ESPN promotion last season. Then the day became very short. Now I registered us sometime in April and have since called on people to vote for our team via the app and QR code that hangs in the canteen and in the village. It’s funny that you have to play against former professionals as a beer team. It seems like a Utopia. When we registered we were on eighty teams, now we are in the last fifty. Although I don’t have much hope. I saw from the list of teams that there were also larger clubs in the Netherlands. We are really the lowest team of FC De Westhoek. The lowest of the lowest.”

Teams with the most votes and the most original campaigns to raise votes have a chance to win the final ticket. The team will be announced on Sunday during the broadcast of the Honorary Stand on ESPN. The Match of a Lifetime will be played on May 31 at the winning team’s complex. The opponent is FC De Rebelles, where former professionals such as Royston Drenthe, Ali Boussaboun, Andy van der Meijde and Kika van Es play. The coach is Theo Janssen. Bas Nijhuis is the referee. The match will be broadcast live by ESPN. With all the trimmings, including preview and afterthoughts with Aletha Leidelmeijer, interviews by Hans Kraay Jr. and match commentary by Koert Westerman.

“For next Saturday I only have ten players present from the list of twenty-five players. Some have not yet said anything. If we get to play that match of our lives, I suddenly expect everyone to be eager to play,” says Rijnberg, laughing.
