The explosion happened this morning around 5:00 am at Loos Juweliers at the Vijverhof in Avenhoorn. Several local residents wrote on social media this morning that they sat up in bed because of the explosion.

The impact caused enormous damage, police reported. The window was broken and ceiling parts were falling down. The perpetrators took some of the jewelry from the shop window and then ran away with it. By the time the police arrived on the scene, the suspects had already left.

Jewelry with labels

Around 7 a.m., the police received a report that a car that had been reported stolen was driving through IJmuiden. An hour later the vehicle was seen by the police in IJmuiden. The officers kept an eye on the car for a while. After a while, two people approached the stolen vehicle and opened the doors. At that moment the duo was arrested.

During the search, several watches and jewelry were found. There were also jewels in the car itself. Some of them had a label on them that referred to the jeweler in Avenhorn. In addition to the jewelry, a fake shotgun was also found. The criminality of the imitation weapon is being investigated.
