MIDDELBURG – The festive reopening of the renovated schoolyard of Primary School Het Talent took place on Wednesday, May 8. A few weeks earlier, the Green Hands Working Group had started their mission: transforming the gray, concrete schoolyard into a lively oasis of greenery.

Member of the working group Jorien Mesu: “In 2024, many meetings will be held and many plans will be written, but we want to show that you can do better. doing. You can be the change you want to see in the world by taking small steps. We hope to inspire others with this initiative.”

Thanks to the efforts of parents, students, local partners and generous donations, the working group was able to realize the project. During the reopening, all attendees were invited to participate in the further greening of the schoolyard. Parents and children were asked to remove tiles and plant greenery together with the working group, leaving a lasting memory and actively contributing to a greener future.

The renovated schoolyard not only offers a space to play, but also a learning opportunity about sustainability and connection with nature. The young green hands of group ½ will be given an extra task: taking care of the plants and maintaining the square, giving them an active role in preserving their living environment.
