This weekend there is a chance of seeing the Northern Lights in the Netherlands

A series of solar flares are on their way to Earth, raising the possibility that the Northern Lights will be visible this weekend. Depending on the weather and conditions, the aurora borealis seems to be best observed during the night from Friday to Saturday, according to Weerplaza.

The first solar flare will probably arrive between 8 p.m. Friday evening and 5 a.m. Saturday morning. One or two powerful eruptions are also expected during the night from Saturday to Sunday. Because it is currently not really dark for very long at night in the Netherlands, there is only a small window in which the Northern Lights can be seen. “It starts to get dark just after three and then it’s quickly the end of the story for seeing the northern lights,” says Weerplaza.

It won’t be due to the weather, which seems quite favorable in many places. Low cloud or fog can only occur in coastal areas, but according to the weather bureau, this is “an uncertain factor and also quite local in nature.” Only from Sunday evening onwards does the chance of an occasional shower increase. Until then, the conditions for seeing the Northern Lights are quite favorable.
