The new French action film “Le salaire de la peur”, which was shot in Morocco, has been available on Netflix since Friday, March 29. The film is a remake of the 1953 classic of the same name and was directed by Julien Leclercq.

The film has an all-star cast starring Ana Girardot, Alban Lenoir, Franck Gastambide and Sofiane Zermani. The story is about a rescue mission in the desert. Hundreds of refugees in a camp near a burning oil well need to be rescued. Two people are given the “impossible mission” to transport nitroglycerin to the source and detonate it.

“The 1950s version is an undisputed classic, but some of the messages it contains no longer resonate today,” said Ana Girardot. “I know that Julien Leclercq did not intend to pay tribute to that film, but rather to make a nod to it and make something more current, with new characters,” Sofiane Zermani explained in an interview with Divertio.

The four main actors lived a bit like hermits during the three-month filming in the Moroccan desert. “We spent hours in trucks, talking about the world, about our generation, about all the current topics…,” said Ana Girardot. The four also learned to drive the trucks. “We sometimes had to maneuver them over narrow ledges and along cliffs, and it really wasn’t easy,” she added.
