The German company Tyran was founded when the corona misery was at its peak. This gave the men quite a bit of time to work on their sound and style and the first live show had to wait a while. The first demos date back to 2020, while the first performance took place in 2023. The debut album Tyrant’s Oath took a little longer to arrive, but that wait is rewarded with no fewer than nine attractive songs and a bonus track.

The final style is Teutonic heavy metal that sounds as if it came straight from the early eighties. Although these are certainly the heyday of this genre, there are currently so many albums being released that pay tribute to this glorious decade by making music that is full of references to that time that the overview is somewhat lost. This makes little difference to the listening pleasure, because from the first guitar strokes, the high opening scream and the exciting rhythm section, this debut is perfect. Protectors Of Metal has speed metal riffs, an infectious energy and nice, melodic choruses. The production is decent with a clearly audible bass guitar and a nice live feel and sound.

Originality is not a word that can be associated with this quintet. Even the titles are a mixed bag of metal clichés. However, it doesn’t make it any less fun. The first single Bombernot to be confused with the Motrhead classic, is a lot like Judas Priest’s Freewheel Burning, but gives it enough of its own content to appear fresh despite the similarities. Everything revolves around catchy and energetic songs that captivate and entertain. Almost every track feels like a warm bath and immediately arouses interest.

In addition to Judas Priest, the music is reminiscent of well-known names: Saxon, Accept, Helloween, early Queensrche, Motrhead, AC/DC and Iron Maiden. During the day Riot In The Streets there is open flirting with Maiden’s 2 Minutes To Midnightwhile during the chorus of Highway Warriors You can almost hear singer Michael Kiske (Helloween) in the high notes. Tyran more than makes up for the lack of originality with enthusiastic musicianship and exceptionally catchy songs. It results in a fine debut that will not be boring for fans of traditional metal.
