The stopped game between NAC Breda and Willem II will be played without an audience. The Brabant derby was definitively halted on Friday after objects were thrown on the field for the second time.

The KNVB has determined that the remainder of the match will be played. By order of the local triangle, no spectators are allowed to be present. It is not yet known when the duel in the Kitchen Champion Division will resume.

The derby in the Rat Verlegh Stadium was halted for the first time in the second half on Friday due to fireworks on the field. After Willem II’s goal fifteen minutes before the end, NAC fans threw various objects on the field. Subsequently, referee Jeroen Manschot decided to stop the game at 0-1.

Manschot thus followed the rules that the KNVB tightened last week after the events in De Kuip during the cup match between Feyenoord and Ajax (1-2). During that match, Ajax player Davy Klaassen was hit with an object from the audience. After an interruption of half an hour, that game was still played.

NAC and Hyballa critical of fans

NAC has found out the name of the fan who threw fireworks on the field. The club has called on this person in a joint statement with the municipality of Breda, the police and the Public Prosecution Service to report. The club is still looking for spectators who threw plastic cups of beer later in the game.

“It is deeply and deeply sad to see that despite all the attention that has been paid to fan violence and the danger it entails in recent weeks, a number of visitors still felt it necessary to set off fireworks and flares and throw objects NAC wrote in a statement.

NAC coach Peter Hyballa was also very critical of the supporters. “Those supporters have absolutely no discipline. With this they disadvantage our team and also the club,” said Hyballa ESPN. “Kheck, I can’t say anything about emotions. I am an emotional man myself. But this really sucks.”
