Four fatalities in FlixBus highway crash are women | Abroad

Police have identified three fatalities. It concerns a 19-year-old German from Bavaria, a 20-year-old Indonesian who lived in Berlin and a 47-year-old Polish woman.

The identity of the fourth deceased person could not yet be determined. According to a police spokesperson, not all travelers had ID with them, writes the German newspaper Image. It is unclear whether this was also the case with the fourth fatality.

According to Image people from 24 different countries were on the bus. The Netherlands is not among them. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Wednesday that it had no indications that Dutch people were involved.

35 people were injured in the bus accident on the A9 near Leipzig, 6 of them seriously. German media reported on Thursday that it was unclear exactly how many people were on the bus.

FlixBus stated on Wednesday that there were 2 drivers and 53 passengers on the bus. But the German police counted fewer occupants. It is still unclear what that difference is. The fire brigade is trying to use thermal imaging cameras to search for any missing persons.

German justice is investigating the bus driver. The 62-year-old man is suspected of manslaughter and bodily harm due to negligence. It is still unclear what caused the vehicle to leave the road. According to FlixBus, the bus driver complied with all driving and rest times. As far as we know, no other vehicles were involved in the accident.
