A twelve-year-old child was killed in the shooting at a school in the Finnish city of Vantaa. Two other victims were seriously injured. The police have arrested a twelve-year-old suspect.

The shooting took place at a school in Vantaa, a suburb of the Finnish capital Helsinki. This is a school with approximately eight hundred students between the ages of six and fifteen. Parents told the media that the shooting occurred in a classroom.

Apart from the twelve-year-old shooter, there are no other suspects in the picture. The two students who were seriously injured were taken to hospital. They are also twelve years old.

The perpetrator’s motive is still unclear. According to police, the child had a handgun for which a family member had a permit. All victims reportedly suffered gunshot wounds. The suspect reportedly fled on foot after the shooting and was later arrested.

The incident led to shocked reactions in Finland. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Interior Minister Mari Rantanen expressed their horror at the shooting.

The police are still investigating what exactly happened.
