WhatsApp has added a new feature that allows you to plan events in a group. The function makes it easier for schools, associations and neighborhoods, for example, to organize meetings or parties.
Members of a group within a WhatsApp Community can be the first to use the new event function. If you create an event in a group, it will be pinned to the group’s page. Events get their own chat thread, where you can see who will or will not be present and where people can respond.
The function can be useful if you want to organize a party, outing or drinks. But of course it can also be used for more serious gatherings and meetings. The people who have indicated that they are going to an event will receive an automatic notification from WhatsApp when the event is about to take place.
Coming soon to all groups
The WhatsApp events will first appear in groups within WhatsApp communities and will also come to all WhatsApp groups in the coming months.
Announcement groups
The announcement groups in WhatsApp communities also get a new option: members can leave comments on messages from the administrator of such a group. The replies are grouped and minimized, and the notifications are muted for everyone.
Anyone can create a WhatsApp community and add groups to it. Each WhatsApp community may consist of a maximum of 100 groups. In the community Announcement Channel, administrators can send messages to all members.
