Juan Vicente Pérez Mora died on Tuesday at the age of 114. The Venezuelan was officially the oldest man in the world, according to Guinness World Records. His death was announced by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

Pérez was born on May 27, 1909. He was officially recognized as the oldest man in the world in 2022. Pérez was exactly 112 years and 253 days old on February 4 of that year.

The Venezuelan was the father of eleven children. When he entered the record book, he had 41 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Pérez, who was known as ‘Tio Vicente’, was the ninth of ten children and also came from a large family. He worked in the fields in the state of Táchira, in the Andes Mountains, from the age of five, when he started helping with the sugar cane and coffee harvests.

Later, Pérez became police chief and was responsible for resolving land and family disputes, while still working as a farmer.

At 114 years and 331 days old, Pérez has officially become the fourth-oldest man ever. Due to Pérez’s death, 112-year-old Japanese Gisaburo Sonobe is now the oldest man in the world.

The oldest living person in the world is the Spanish Maria Branyas Morera. She celebrated her 117th birthday a month ago. She took over the title from France’s Lucile Randon. She died last January three weeks before her 119th birthday.

Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment, who died in 1997, is the oldest person ever, aged 122 years and 164 days.
