The Dutch team will travel to the European Championships by plane, but will otherwise only travel by bus and train Football

The Dutch national team travels to the host cities by bus and train during the European Championships in Germany. Only the outward journey from the Netherlands to the base camp in Wolfsburg is by plane.

“UEFA wants to make the European Championship as green as possible,” said top football director Nigel de Jong on Thursday at a press meeting on the KNVB Campus in Zeist. “That means that we do not travel to the matches by plane.”

The Dutch team will play in the group stage of the European Championship in Hamburg (against Poland), in Leipzig (against France) and in Berlin (against Austria). The selection travels by bus to Leipzig and Hamburg. Depending on the traffic on the road, this is between a two and three hour drive.

The Oranje selection travels back and forth to Berlin by train. “The train connection between Wolfsburg and Berlin is the best,” De Jong continued. The Dutch team will most likely get a separate section on the train.

Preparation for the Dutch team starts on May 27

De Jong further said that the preparation of the Dutch team will start on May 27 at the KNVB Campus in Zeist, although not all players are present yet due to club commitments.

National coach Ronald Koeman must submit his final selection to UEFA on June 7. According to UEFA regulations, that selection must consist of 23 players, but this will most likely be expanded to 26 players.

On June 6 and 10, the Dutch team will play practice matches in De Kuip against Iceland and Canada respectively. On June 11, the Dutch team will fly to Wolfsburg, where the selection will train in the AOK Stadium. That is the stadium where the women of VfL Wolfsburg normally play their matches. Wolfsburg will remain the base camp of the Dutch team for the entire European Championship. Before the matches, you will spend one or two nights in a hotel in the host city.
