Four people were arrested during the ceremony on the Amsterdam square. A 41-year-old man was arrested earlier in the day yesterday for inflammatory texts he allegedly posted on social media.

Just before the moment of silence at 8 p.m., a 53-year-old man from Amstelveen was arrested because he wanted to unfold a banner. Shortly afterwards, a man and a woman believed to be with the man with the banner were arrested, police said.

The three belong to a group of demonstrators who, just like last year during Remembrance Day, drew attention to the political situation in Uganda. One was arrested when he tried to unfold a banner. The rest of the group simply remained silent during the two minutes of silence held at 8 p.m.

At the beginning of the moment of silence, one of the men was arrested, watch the images here:

“My clients are against the financial support that the EU and the Netherlands are providing to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni,” Jebbink said earlier. “They call it hypocritical that the Dutch king and prime minister pretend during the commemoration that a genocide such as in the Second World War could never happen again, while Museveni is supported.”

Jebbink previously said he doubted whether the charges could be proven. “It seems, for example, that two of them did not do anything culpable at all.”

TikTok

Shortly after the moment of silence, a 24-year-old man from Nijmegen was arrested on Dam Square. The police had received a report that the man allegedly said he wanted to disrupt order on the Amsterdam square via a TikTok livestream. He has also been released.
