The Feyenoord players understand why coach Arne Slot wants to make the switch to Liverpool next summer. The trainer confirmed on Thursday prior to Go Ahead Eagles-Feyenoord that he wants to move.

“I am very happy for him if it comes around,” Gernot Trauner responded after the match won by Feyenoord in Deventer at ESPN. “We are grateful for what he has done for our team.”

Slot confirmed before the match that talks with Liverpool are ongoing. “It seems clear to me that I would like to,” he said. “I am now waiting for the clubs to reach an agreement and I have every confidence in that.”

Although Trauner grants his trainer a transfer, the defender admitted that he hopes Slot will stay. “But we also know that there will come a time when he will take the next step. No one will blame him for going to Liverpool.”

Bijlow: ‘Liverpool is a very nice club’

Justin Bijlow also understands why Slot wants to leave for Anfield. Afterwards, the goalkeeper was asked at the press conference about Slot’s intended switch. “Liverpool is a very nice club,” said the goalkeeper.

“I think the trainer has achieved something fantastic over the past three years. When he came, there was a completely different philosophy. Playing football from the back was not really our thing. Moreover, the entire organization of the club is now a lot better.”

Feyenoord won 1-3 at Go Ahead Eagles on Thursday evening, preventing PSV from officially calling themselves champions. Next Sunday the Eindhoven team can finally secure the title.
