The Delta emulator will soon have a version for iPads. Developer Riley Testut reports this. According to him, this iPad-specific version is ‘almost finished’. Delta will also eventually receive support for the SEGA Mega Drive; Delta currently only supports select Nintendo consoles.

Testut announces the arrival of Delta’s iPad version on social media. According to the developer, this variant will be available with version 1.6 of the emulator. People who support the developer on Patreon can already download the iPad version via the regular AltStore. By this, Testut is not referring to the AltStore PAL app store that is available in Europe, as it is not available for iPadOS.

iPad support for Delta has been in the works for some time, Testut writes. That feature has not been supported until now, as the developer planned to only make the app available in Europe through its AltStore PAL app store. However, Apple has recently also allowed emulators in its own App Store, which now gives the iPad version more priority.

Delta is already available in the Apple App Store, but only outside Europe. Within the EU, the app is only available via AltStore PAL, an external app store. The emulator is available for free through that app store, although the app store itself costs $1.82 per year to cover Apple’s Core Technology Fee.

However, AltStore PAL is not available for iPads, as Apple does not allow third-party app stores on iPadOS. It is not known whether Testut will also add the emulator to the Apple App Store in Europe when iPad support is added. The iPad version will probably be available in the regular AltStore, also in Europe. Users can install it without a jailbreak, but they must create a free Apple developer account.

Delta makes it possible to emulate NES, SNES, N64, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance and DS games. The app will soon also receive support for the SEGA Genesis, which was known here in Europe as the Mega Drive. That feature is currently in beta. In the longer term, Testut also wants to support multiplayer between different devices. Testut says he has ‘ideas’ for this, but that it will take some time to implement them.
