According to the developer, the Delta emulator will soon be released for iPads. This would make it the first emulator for iPads. With Delta it is possible to play old Nintendo games. The emulator was released for iPhones earlier this month.

The developer, Riley Testut, announces the arrival of the iPad version of Delta on social media. This makes it possible to play games from different Nintendo systems, such as the NES, SNES, Game Boy and DS. Later it should also be possible to play games from the SEGA Mega Drive via the emulator.

Apple did not allow game emulators on its devices for years. However, Apple has been required to allow such software since this month due to the Digital Markets Act. With this new law, the European Commission wants to promote competition between providers of digital platforms. This means that more app stores and apps should be allowed on iPhones. Apple only allows third-party app stores in the EU, but emulators are now allowed in the App Store worldwide.

Testut already released Delta for iPhones earlier this month. In Europe, however, the emulator is only available through the alternative app store AltStore PAL. Delta is available for free through that app store, although the AltStore itself costs 1.82 euros per year. According to the maker, this pays Apple’s Core Technology Fee. That is the surcharge that the iPhone maker charges developers of popular apps and third-party app stores. Outside the EU, the emulator is available for free in the Apple App Store.

AltStore PAL is not available for iPads, as Apple does not currently allow third-party app stores on its tablets. It is not known whether Testut will also add the Delta emulator to the Apple App Store in Europe when iPad support is added.
