The fire that broke out a day ago in a cold room of the Vice Versa distribution center on Kanaalstraat in Oss was finally under control on Saturday morning. The municipality reports this. The fire brigade decided not to extinguish the fire and allowed the building to burn out in a controlled manner. Small particles from solar panels were released during the fire. Residents are asked to clean up these particles if they come across them anywhere.

There is still smoke nuisance in the area around Maaskade, Dommelstraat, Diezenstraat. This area has been cordoned off. The fire brigade expects that the smoke will diminish quickly now that fire extinguishers are no longer being used.

Particles
The fire blew many particles into the area. The particles come from solar panels, among other things. These solar panel particles are not dangerous in themselves, but they can be sharp.

The municipality asks residents who find particles in the garden, on the street or on the football field to clean them up. Make sure you wear sturdy gloves. “The materials can then be put in the wheelie bin,” the municipality reports.

Be careful with animals, for example when walking the dog. Make sure they don’t step on or eat particles. Do you find larger particles in public places? Then report this to the municipality. They then clean up that waste.

Fire
The fire brigade had been fighting the fire since half past four on Thursday night. The fire only grew bigger during Friday evening. “Everything we have is being used.” a spokesperson for the Brabant-North Safety Region said on Friday.

The adjacent buildings have been spared. Residents of Vechtstraat and IJsselstraat were unable to spend the night at home due to the smoke. They looked at whether they could go to family or friends. If that didn’t work, they received help from the municipality of Oss to find a hotel or other place.

The smoke spread throughout the area and could be seen from the A59, in Heesch and even Nijmegen. At the beginning of the evening, an NL Alert was sent to local residents.

According to the safety region, no harmful substances were released during the fire. The Sustainability Square will remain closed on Saturday due to the fire.
