London Mayor Sadiq Khan has been re-elected as expected. According to BBC and Sky News the Labor politician has won comfortably over Susan Hall of the Conservative Party. This gives him a third term in the British capital.

Khan had been leading in the polls for a long time, but Labor was still concerned about whether his voters would go to the polls. Khan received 43.7 percent of the vote and Hall was stuck at 32.6 percent.

Khan has been mayor since 2016. His predecessor was the conservative politician Boris Johnson, who was mayor for eight years and later became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

Labor scored many victories in the local elections this week. The party also won the mayoral posts of Liverpool, Manchester and South Yorkshire, among others. The result is seen as an indicator for the upcoming national elections.

The Conservatives actually suffered heavy losses. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s party lost more than 450 seats in municipal councils and is now the third party, behind Labor and the Liberal Democrats.

Sunak’s leadership is at stake following Khan’s victory. Parliamentary elections will probably also take place at the end of this year. When it goes to the polls, Sunak’s party will lose to Labor again after fourteen years, according to current polls.
