Apple plans to mass-produce a foldable screen product by 2025, claims Apple analyst Jeff Pu. According to previous rumors, the tech giant would not want to release foldable devices until 2027, but Pu claims that Apple has accelerated developments.
Apple plans to mass-produce a 20.3-inch foldable device by the end of 2025. Jeff Pu writes this in a message to Apple investors, the news site claims 9to5Mac. It is not stated which device is involved. However, another analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, previously announced that Apple is working on a MacBook with a 20.3-inch foldable screen.
Kuo claimed that this product won’t hit shelves until 2027, but Pu said Apple has “accelerated” its work on foldable devices. That is not surprising, because a rumor previously emerged that Apple now has employees of the Vision Pro headset work on its foldables.
The analyst also says that the company wants to release a foldable iPhone by the end of 2026. Apple is said to be testing two different screen sizes: 7.8 inches and 8.3 inches. There have been rumors about foldable iPhones for years. For example, it is said to be a flip phone and prototypes have reportedly already been made. According to a rumor from February, the smartphone will not be released until 2026 at the earliest, but a month later it was reported that it has been postponed until early 2027.
According to previous rumors, the company would encounter various technical problems in the development of its foldables. For example, foldable phones are often less durable because the hinge is vulnerable. There is also a fold line visible when the device is unfolded. Apple would like to solve these problems before launching a foldable product.
Apple is one of the last major manufacturers that has not yet released a foldable device. For example, Samsung has already launched various versions of its Fold and Flip devices. In addition, Google has released its Pixel Fold smartphone in 2023. OnePlus also announced its foldable Open smartphone last year.
