A 25-year-old man from The Hague is suspected of online abuse of at least nine children aged six to twelve. According to prosecutors, he posed as a model scout. Twice as many victims are taken into account.
The man approached the girls from the Netherlands and Belgium via social media such as Snapchat and TikTok. He pretended to be a girl who was looking for new models on behalf of a modeling agency.
The victims submitted photos for this purpose. At first they shared innocent images, but then things went a bit further. According to the Public Prosecution Service (OM), at least three thousand files with images of child sexual abuse were found at the suspect’s home.
The provisional summons lists nine children who have filed a report. The Public Prosecution Service expects this to be at least twice as many. The man from The Hague was arrested on February 6 and has confessed. Since then, the police have been trying to identify as many victims as possible and contact their parents.
Man also prosecuted for distributing images of child sexual abuse
Victims or their parents may recognize the suspect’s approach. The Public Prosecution Service advises them to contact the vice police in their own region.
“Sexual experiences via the internet are a new reality and increasingly normal for young people. That is why it is all the more important to talk to children about boundaries and the dangers of abuse via social media,” the Public Prosecution Service advises.
The man is formally suspected of digital indecency with underage girls and possession of child pornography. He is also prosecuted for the distribution of the images, because he also used the obtained material to exchange on the internet. He received similar images in return. The first introductory hearing will be held in the District Court of The Hague on Tuesday, May 14.
