Students and teachers have announced a demonstration for this afternoon at Roeterseiland, one of the campuses of the University of Amsterdam. In a message circulating about the demonstration in various app groups, the UvA board is called on to resign. One of the organizations that set up the demonstration, UvA for Palestine, has stated that it does not support that call.

At 4 p.m., university teachers and employees will organize a strike and protest. It is on the same lawn where the tents were set up yesterday. “Join us to ensure that the UvA board knows that last night’s events are criminal and that they must resign,” the call reads.

“Many lecturers are furious,” sociology lecturer Sam Hamer responds to the announced strike. According to the UvA lecturer, it is ‘terrible’ that the students were treated in this way by the police. “It is unbelievable that the Executive Board is behind such violent police action. state.” The group Hamer is demonstrating with, UvA for Palestine, is not demanding the departure of the board.

The solidarity protest that was announced in front of the entrance to the main building on Roeterseiland joins the teachers’ protest. “We are still here,” reads an announcement message. “Solidarity with Gaza, with Rafah and the arrested students.”

It is not yet clear whether the demonstration has been announced to the municipality.
