Google introduces Pixel 8a with seven years of updates for 549 euros – Tablets and phones – News

Google introduces its new midrange smartphone Pixel 8a, which will cost from 549 euros. Like the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, the 8a comes with seven years of updates, which include both security updates and Android version upgrades.

The Pixel 8a, like the Pixel 7a, has a 6.1″ OLED screen with 2400×1080 pixels, covered by Gorilla Glass 3. The refresh rate has been increased from 90Hz to 120Hz and, according to Google, the screen is 40 percent brighter, making it a peak brightness of 2000cd/m². The housing of the Pixel 8a has rounder corners, an aluminum frame and a back made of largely recycled plastic. The smartphone will be available in black, white and two new colors: Bay Blue and Aloe its predecessor, the Pixel 8a is IP67 certified for water resistance to a depth of 1 meter for up to 30 minutes.

While the Pixel 7a had the same Tensor G2 soc as the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, the Pixel 8a is equipped with the Tensor G3 that was previously found in the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. According to previous rumors, the 8a has a version of the Tensor G3 with a different package, which may throttle sooner than the more expensive devices. The 8a also has 8GB lpddr5x ram and 128GB or 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. The larger storage option is new compared to the 7a. The Pixel 8a’s 4492mAh battery can be charged wirelessly or with 18W wired.

The camera hardware of the Pixel 8a is unchanged from the Pixel 7a: a 64-megapixel main camera with optical stabilization and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera without autofocus. There is a 13-megapixel front camera. Of course, the Pixel 8a again has AI functions such as Best Take, Super Res Zoom, the Magic Editor and Audio Magic Eraser. The Circle to Search function is also available.

The Pixel 8a will cost from 549 euros in Belgium and the Netherlands, which is 40 euros more than the Pixel 7a at launch. The device can now be pre-ordered and will actually be available from May 14. In the Netherlands, the Pixel 8a, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will also be for sale at Vodafone and KPN, as previously leaked. Of the three major providers, customers could previously only contact Odido for the Pixel devices. The Media Markt will also sell Pixel phones and associated accessories in the Netherlands. That store also adds the Pixel Watch to the range.
