The 16-year-old boy who was seriously injured in a stabbing in Helmond on Tuesday night died in hospital from his injuries on Wednesday morning. A 20-year-old from Helmond has now been arrested. It concerns an acquaintance of the victim. The stabbing took place at De Watermolenwal.
The police received a report of the stabbing around midnight. Officers then found the boy seriously injured on the nearby Piet Blomplein. Given the seriousness of the situation, the teenager was operated on at the scene. An officer drove to a nearby hospital to get additional bags of blood.
Shortly afterwards, the boy was rushed to hospital, accompanied by a trauma doctor. There he eventually succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect is known
The police immediately started an investigation. A 20-year-old man was standing near the victim. He is suspected of involvement in the stabbing, has been arrested and will be interrogated on Wednesday.
Police report that the victim and suspect are known to each other. “We strongly believe that an argument preceded the stabbing incident.”
