Joost Klein was under the watchful eye of the press for the first time on Wednesday Europapa performed live on the Eurovision Song Contest stage. Finally we could see how the artist dressed up his song for the second semi-final.

That worked in a fairly empty room, where only journalists were sitting, of course not yet really. But Klein tried. “I don’t care where you come from, all we have is this moment” he shouted before he started chopping. The musician was clearly having a good time on stage.
Remarkably, team Joost Klein chooses to use the last seconds of his performance to recruit votes. The emotional moment in which he addresses his father is noticeably out of place in the first 2.5 minutes Europapa.
Exactly that moment, with English subtitles for the occasion, is what we see again and again when people call for votes for the songs. That is remarkable, because a part of a chorus is often chosen.

It was not just Joost Klein who performed for the first time on for the press, the Israeli singer also made an appearance. Eden Golan’s participation is controversial because of the war in the Gaza Strip. There was a somewhat icy atmosphere in the room when Golan came on stage.
While the journalists present still applauded most artists, it became a lot quieter at Golan. Israeli reporters shouted messages of support at the 20-year-old singer, but there was also a journalist who shouted “boo”.
