Sydney Sweeney has landed another major role. The in-demand actress will play boxer Christy Martin in a new biopic, reports Deadline. Martin is considered one of the most famous and successful female American boxers ever.

“I wrestled and kickboxed from the age of 12 to 19. I was eager to get back in the ring, train and transform my body,” Sweeney, 26, told Deadline. “Christy’s story is not light, it is physically and emotionally demanding, but I love to challenge myself.”

The now 55-year-old Martin had a much-discussed life not only in the ring. She was abused and later the victim of a murder attempt. “She overcame gender stereotypes and fought through emotional, physical and financial abuse,” says the actress. “I feel compelled to tell a story about a woman who faced so much adversity, but never let herself be defeated.”

The new biopic is directed by David Michôd. According to the filmmakers, Martin himself also contributed to the project. Filming will start this fall.
