Ukraine claims to have hit an oil refinery in the Russian region of Bashkiria in a drone attack on Thursday. The drone is said to have traveled a record distance of 1,500 kilometers, a source within the Ukrainian intelligence services told the news agency Reuters.
The distance has not been officially confirmed by Ukraine. If true, that would be the furthest Ukrainian attack on Russia since the start of the war. Never before has Ukraine managed to hit targets 1,500 kilometers away.
Russia confirms that an oil refinery owned by state-owned Gazprom has been damaged. The factory is not said to be out of action and no casualties have been reported.
The governor of Bashkiria speaks of an attempt to disrupt a national holiday. Russia celebrates Victory Day today and commemorates the victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.
