The district cup final took a dramatic turn on Thursday evening. One of the football players of Achilles Veen, Goes’ opponent, collapsed halfway through the first half. He had to be resuscitated on the field, after which all kinds of emergency services arrived on the scene. The match has been definitively stopped.

On a sporting level, Goes got off to a terrible start, with the 0-1 in the first minute and the 0-2 five minutes later. But that was nothing compared to what happened a little later. During an attack by Goes, after 26 minutes, the captain of Achilles Veen suddenly fell to the ground. Just like Bas Dost earlier this season at NEC and the Dane Christian Eriksen during the 2021 European Championship. Immediately all the players from Achilles Veen and Goes stood in a circle around him. Medics were quick to provide first aid.

When the air ambulance landed and the players went to the dressing room, the organization in Oisterwijk reported that the footballer was doing well under the circumstances. The helicopter flew away again without the footballer. He was able to go to the hospital by ambulance. Shortly before 6.30 pm it became clear that the match had been permanently stopped and would be played out at a later time.
