Michael van Gerwen achieved an important victory over Gerwyn Price in the Premier League of Darts on Thursday: 6-3. The Brabander can therefore assure himself of a place in the play-offs this evening.
Van Gerwen had a rough start in the First Direct Arena. The three-time world champion from Vlijmen soon faced a 1-3 deficit, but then found an extra gear. He won five legs in a row and finished the match with an impressive average of 101.70 points.
This means Van Gerwen can qualify for the Premier League play-offs this evening. If the Brabander wins this round, he will rise to third place in the standings and will no longer be able to fall outside the top four next week. The best quartet will compete for the overall victory in London on Thursday, May 23.
Later in the evening, Van Gerwen will play Luke Littler or Peter Wright in the semi-finals. The two Brits will face each other in the first round. Luke Humphries-Rob Cross and Nathan Aspinall-Michael Smith are the other first-round matches in Leeds.
Van Gerwen is the record holder with seven final victories in the Premier League of Darts. He has one more than English legend Phil Taylor.
