Through his visit to Wageningen, Ma mainly wanted to gain insight into the possibilities for sustainable livestock farming and fishing in China. Ma wants to ‘focus his time and energy fully on agriculture and sustainable food production, including in the Gobi desert in China’.

After a general introduction to WUR, various WUR scientists presented their expertise on the future of sustainable agriculture, aquaculture and fisheries.

The delegation also visited the new high-tech greenhouse and the Netherlands Plant Eco-phenotyping Center (NPEC) on Wageningen Campus.

During the tour, Ma was impressed by the breadth of the WUR domain and the ultramodern research facilities. During his conversations with the Wageningen scientists, Ma showed an interest in ways to make agriculture attractive to young talents, and in possibilities for sustainable food production. He indicated that he would like to visit WUR again to look at collaboration opportunities.
