The French start-up AUUM has developed a compact technology as an innovative and ecological alternative to cardboard and plastic cups. The solution cleans, disinfects and dries a glass in 10 seconds with only 2cl of water and no chemicals. This cleaning solution can generate potential annual savings of approximately 3 billion cups in the Netherlands. ISS Facility Services in the Netherlands will be the first commercial partner in the Netherlands to offer the AUUM solution.

Environmentally friendly cleaning solution

The patented technology developed by AUUM uses 76 times less water than the dishwasher and generates 58 times less CO2 than the paper cup, guaranteeing total disinfection without chemicals. This makes the process of reuse simple and prevents waste of cardboard or plastic. The solution is already being used by 120 business customers in France.

ISS launches partner in the Netherlands

The solution is currently being tested by several customers of ISS Netherlands who want to quickly deploy the concept with their customers before the ban on paper cups comes into effect. From 2024, all coffee cups must be washable or largely recycled. Many companies are currently looking into alternatives to disposable cups. With AUUM there is now a suitable and environmentally friendly solution, which also provides a better taste experience than coffee consumption in a disposable cup.

Douwe Driehuis, Head of Innovation & Workplace Management ISS Netherlands: “We have been looking for a solution to reduce our waste flows for some time now. Coffee cups are a major and eye-catching waste stream in offices. Next our reusables solution for to-go coffeee and in anticipation of changing legislation, we have identified the AUUM-S solution as the perfect solution as a sustainable alternative to coffee cups. After the success of the concept in the French market, we wanted to start a partnership with the company AUUM as soon as possible to be able to offer this solution to our customers. We are extremely excited and delighted to continue this partnership with the AUUM teams.”

Adrien Leblanc, Chief Expansion Officer & Founding Partner at AUUM: “Since the foundation of AUUM 3 years ago, we are convinced that the world of tomorrow will be that of zero waste. By means of immediate, ecological, simple and accessible cleaning, we wanted to make the act of reuse as simple as the act of throwing away. After a quick bet on France, we now want to accelerate our international expansion with the opening of the Netherlands, a promising market with a strong ecological awareness. We are very honored that ISS has selected AUUM as 1st partner to support them in this transition to reusable in the Dutch market. We look forward to working together!”
