Max Verstappen would have ‘already gotten on the plane’ if what happened to Logan Sargeant at Williams this weekend had happened to him. The American had to give up his car after Friday in Australia to Alexander Albon, who had so much damage to his chassis after a crash during FP1 that Williams could not continue with that car.

While Verstappen was looking for pace all weekend, but eventually found confidence in his car in Q3 and took pole position with an almost 0.3 second lead, Williams found itself in a difficult position this weekend after Friday in Melbourne. Albon had crashed during FP1 and had a lot of damage to his chassis, making it questionable whether it could be repaired. This was not the case, after which it became clear that Williams had not brought a spare chassis. Williams therefore chose to remove Sargeant from his car, even though he had done nothing wrong, and put Albon in to achieve the maximum possible result. With a P12 during qualifying, Albon has at least positioned himself for a chance at the top ten, but Williams’ action raised many eyebrows.

Verstappen about Williams situation

In conversation with The Telegraph Let Verstappen shine his light on the situation at Williams. He sympathizes with the American, who is in his second season in the premier class and, like Albon, has not yet scored any points this season. “That obviously sucks for Logan. I understand the team that they made that decision from the performance aspect. But it’s not nice.”

What had Verstappen done?

Verstappen has never been in this position, but what would the Dutchman have done if this had happened to him at Red Bull? “I would not have given up my car in such a case. Certainly not in my position. Then I would have been on the plane by now. If that were to happen, I would first flatten my own car, then no one would be able to get there anymore.” drive.” Yet Verstappen believes that he does not have to worry about such a situation. The three-time world champion assumes that Red Bull would then put him in Sergio Pérez’s car. “In my current position, I don’t have to worry about being asked something like that. That seems logical to me.”
