Valentijn Driessen has reserved a place for , and , in his favorite Dutch line-up for the upcoming European Championship in Germany. Johan Derksen agrees with Driessen’s choices.
The Dutch national team was discussed extensively on Wednesday evening Today Inside. Driessen is not impressed by what the formation of national coach Ronald Koeman has shown in the friendlies against Scotland and Germany and expects that the Dutch team will have to pack their bags on July 6, when the quarter-finals will take place.

Driessen has been recommended by the editors of Today Inside nevertheless asked about the line-up in which he would have the Dutch national team perform. The reporter from The Telegraph understands little of the (tactical) choices Koeman has made in recent international matches, but is also causing a stir with a number of surprising names in his starting eleven. “This is half my line-up and half the line-up I think Koeman will start the European Championship with”says Driessen.
The reporter does not choose Bart Verbruggen or Mark Fleken on goal, but the currently injured Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow. His three-man defense consists of Virgil van Dijk, Nathan Aké and Timber. The choice of Timber is surprising, given that the defender suffered a serious knee injury soon after his transfer to Arsenal and has therefore not been in action for months. Denzel Dumfries and Quilindschy Hartman are the wingbacks in Driessen’s lineup, who opts for Tijjani Reijnders and Frenkie de Jong in midfield.
He has made a striking starting place for Bergwijn up front. The Amsterdammer is having a disappointing season with Ajax and is struggling with his fitness. He had to miss the international matches in September and November due to injuries and for the meetings with Scotland and Germany he was not included in the pre-selection and ultimately not in the final group of players due to a hamstring injury. The Ajax captain is accompanied by Memphis Depay and Georginio Wijnaldum in Driessen’s line-up. Driessen chooses Wijnaldum because he thinks that the veteran will get a starting place from Koeman. The reporter would rather choose Donyell Malen.
“I wouldn’t have any problem with you becoming national coach”, Derksen responded. Driessen and the moustache In Wednesday’s broadcast they agreed remarkably often about the Dutch national team. Memphis received compliments and De Jong received criticism.
