John van ‘t Schip will make way for a new head coach at Ajax next summer, he said on Thursday morning. The former winger took over in October last year as successor to the departed Maurice Steijn, but is now in discussions with the club management about a ‘different role’ within the organization.
Ajax and Van ‘t Schip used the past week and a half, in which a large part of the selection moved to their respective national teams, to look ahead to next season. “The intention of both sides is a role for several years, which role is not yet known. I will no longer be head coach. I am now focusing on the remaining eight games and then there will be plenty of time to talk,” the coach said. quoted by The Telegraph.

Van ‘t Schip took over in October from Hedwiges Maduro, who had temporarily taken over after Steijn’s departure. At the time, the intention was already expressed to continue in a different role within the club at the end of the season, but because the results initially improved so much, there were calls for Van ‘t Schip to continue in the 2024/2024 season. 25 to sit on the bench as ultimately responsible.
After the winter break, however, those sounds were silenced again by a number of disappointing results.
