Emanuel Emegha could go to various top clubs in Europe, but last summer he chose the French Racing Strasbourg. The former Sparta player could previously go to SC Heerenveen, but did not choose the Frisian club at the time.

“I think I’m underestimated in the Netherlands anyway,” says Emegha Football International. “Hardly anyone knows me. That’s not a problem, because everything has its timing, but I don’t understand why that is the case. I was very surprised that it has remained so quiet. What have I changed in Austria? It was make or break.”

“I went there with the mindset that if I didn’t make it work, I could go back to the Netherlands, live at home and chill with my friends every day. Or I’m going to work hard every day and make sure I always takes a step up. I could have played football at Excelsior when I wasn’t playing at Antwerp FC, or at SC Heerenveen, but I chose to go to Austria.”

“They scouted me based on data. How I press, where I position myself in the box. I will never forget Sturm Graz’s presentation. I thought: Huh, I didn’t know I was doing all this. It was quite profound for me. I wasn’t used to such things. At Strasbourg I now get all my data after every match. At Sturm Graz it was the first time I saw something like that,” said Emegha.
