Mathieu van der Poel flew back to his base in Spain on Sunday evening after his third victory in the Tour of Flanders. “I will definitely need a few days to recover,” he said after Flanders Most Beautiful CyclingFlits. Yet the world champion was back on the bike on Monday.

On the Instagram page of his friend and training buddy Freddy Ovett we see a broadly smiling Van der Poel on his bike, during a bike ride in his training area in and around Dénia. The Alpecin-Deceuninck rider was still devastated on Sunday after the finish of the Tour of Flanders, but seems to have recovered well one day later.

In the coming days, Van der Poel will prepare in the Spanish sun for his next important spring appointment: Paris-Roubaix. The world champion hopes to extend his title next Sunday, after crossing the line first in the ‘Hell of the North’ last year.
