Frank de Boer was not an option for Alex Kroes to become Ajax coach, Mike Verweij has revealed in the podcast Kick-Off from De Telegraaf. De Boer has been mentioned a lot recently as a potential successor to John van ‘t Schip after the end of this season, but he would not have been there under Kroes’ leadership.

De Boer is one of the trainers who has been frequently linked to Ajax in recent months, but trainers such as Pascal Jansen, Pepijn Lijnders and Dick Schreuder have also been linked to the Amsterdam team. In any case, De Boer would not have succeeded at Ajax under the leadership of Kroes, Verweij reports in the podcast Kick-Off from De Telegraaf: “De Boer was not an option for Kroes,” begins the Ajax watcher from the morning newspaper.

“Maybe he (De Boer, ed.) is an option for the next general director again,” Verweij indicates. Kroes would be responsible for appointing a new trainer at Ajax, but his suspension changes that. “A lot of things will now shift again. Traffic lights that were red can turn green again, but I think Ajax has to act very quickly and in any case they don’t want Michael van Praag to sit there for a long time,” says the journalist.
