Only four days after the cup win, Feyenoord has to get back to work: the team of coach Arne Slot is expected on Thursday evening at the Vetkampstraat in Deventer, where the away match against Go Ahead Eagles is scheduled for match round 31 of the Eredivisie. The kick-off is at 9:00 PM.

Things must be very strange if Feyenoord does not end this season in second place. However, pursuer FC Twente can, in theory, still come alongside with four matches to play and a gap of 12 points. And so the main goal is clear for Thursday: definitively securing the ticket for the Champions League group stage.

“And apart from that, there is still a lot for us to play for,” Slot said on Wednesday, referring, among other things, to the number of points still to be achieved in the competition. Feyenoord became national champions last season with 82 points, while the team can now reach a total of 84. Only once before in club history did Feyenoord finish with more points (85 in 1972-1973, converted to the three-point system).

“In addition, we have now been undefeated for more than four months if you do not include the penalty series at AS Roma. That undefeated series says a lot about this team, which absolutely does not like to lose. With that characteristic, we want to continue this series for at least a few more weeks.” In addition, there are still individual interests for sufficient players, with the tournaments scheduled for this summer.”

Reason enough to be motivated at the kick-off in the undoubtedly attractive Adelaarshorst and that will be necessary, because with Go Ahead Eagles an opponent awaits that is having a very strong season. With the current eighth place, the play-offs for a ticket to European football are within reach.

Slot knows what awaits his team. “We expect another very difficult away match, in which we will also be tested mentally a few days after winning a prize. I am curious about how my team will deal with this.”
