Ajax has former player Cristian Chivu in the picture as assistant to intended head coach Graham Potter. The Romanian played for the Amsterdam team between 1999 and 2003 and is currently active as a youth coach at Internazionale, the club where he ended his career in 2014.

As the Englishman’s assistant, Chivu is therefore ‘seriously in the picture’, according to the newspaper. After his arrival in 1999, the Romanian quickly emerged as a crowd favorite in the Johan Cruijff ArenA and was a mainstay in the team that reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League under Ronald Koeman in the 2002/03 season. Chivu would eventually play 142 matches in red and white and win a national title, a KNVB Cup and a Johan Cruijff Shield with Ajax.

With the arrival of Chivu, the technical staff of the Amsterdam team would start to take shape in the new season. The current head coach, John van ‘t Schip, will continue as Head of Coaching after the summer. From that moment on, his assistants Michael Valkanis, Hedwiges Maduro and Saïd Bakkati will no longer be part of the technical staff of the Dutch record champion.

Ajax is interested in the return of a 2017 Europa League finalist to Amsterdam.
