Go Ahead Eagles coach René Hake was not happy with the arbitration on Thursday evening after the lost match against Feyenoord. The trainer focused mainly on the VAR.

Hake saw that Feyenoord defender Gernot Trauner made hands in his own penalty area in the run-up to the 0-1. “It is incomprehensible that it is not reversed, because then Feyenoord’s opening goal is scored,” Hake responded. ESPN.

The Go Ahead coach could still understand that the referee could not see the moment properly. “But he is then simply let down by people (the VAR, ed.) who apparently have some difficulty staying awake after 9 p.m.”

In the remainder of the match, Hake had the feeling that referee Erwin Blank wanted to make up for something. “It was striking that a number of those half-moments were whistled very quickly in our favor. I had the feeling that he had to compensate something.”

Go Ahead eventually lost 1-3. Hake emphasized that the final score had nothing to do with the referee’s decisions. “Feyenoord has a good team. We put up a fight, but it didn’t work out.”

Hake is in eighth place in the Eredivisie with Go Ahead and has a good chance of qualifying for the play-offs for European football. Numbers six to nine will compete for a place in the second preliminary round of the Conference League at the end of the season.
