In recent months, Joseph Oosting has been linked to Ajax several times. Last week there was also the alleged interest of Feyenoord, who lost Arne Slot to Liverpool FC. On Friday, Oosting and FC Twente put an end to all speculation. Both parties have agreed on a contract extension until mid-2027. That is one year longer than the option stated in the contract. Yet Valentijn Driessen thinks that Oosting would still be a suitable trainer for Ajax.

“If Harry Potter comes, I will be a little less enthusiastic,” said Driessen at the table at Today Inside. By this he refers to Graham Potter, who turned down an initial offer from Ajax. Genee wonders why Ajax looks to a foreign trainer and not a good Dutch one. Derksen suggests Ron Jans. Driessen has a different candidate in mind.

“I would also have liked to see Oosting at Ajax.” Derksen does not agree with that. “I think that’s still a trainer for the province for the time being.” Driessen thinks that is nonsense. “That was also Arne Slot. He spent one year at AZ, went to Feyenoord and did a great job there for three years. You don’t necessarily have to spend eight or nine years at mediocre clubs.” Then Erik ten Hag’s name is also buzzing around in the corridors.

“Ten Hag thinks he can survive at Manchester United, but he is insulting reporters every day. Then you sign your own death sentence,” said Driessen. Derksen thinks that Ten Hag has not done badly. Driessen sees no future for Ten Hag at Manchester United and that is not just due to the results. “There will be a new owner, a new technical director. They will hire another trainer. They will not continue with a trainer who finishes seventh and does not win a cup.” Manchester United will play Manchester City in the final. None of the men at the table give Erik ten Hag’s team a chance to win this. “That’s the end of the story. He just doesn’t want to accept it yet. That Potter can then go to Manchester United and Ten Hag to Ajax,” Driessen concludes.
