Florian Lipowitz came very close in the final meters, but in the end Richard Carapaz came out on top in the queen stage of the Tour de Romandie. The Ecuadorian won for the first time in the World Tour since his three stage victories in the 2022 Vuelta a España. “I am very happy that I won today,” Carapaz said at a press conference afterwards. CyclismActu.

“I took advantage of the work of INEOS Grenadiers, who made the race very hard,” said the 30-year-old rider from EF Education-EasyPost. “Then I made a good attack, which allowed me to stay in front until the finish.”

“Carlos (Rodríguez, ed.) and I knew that Lipowitz was the fastest of the three of us, so we had to try from far away. What was also an advantage was that I already knew the finale of this stage. I also did this climb in 2017,” said Carapaz. At the time he had to settle for 29th place in the finishing town of Leysin.

Finally, Carapaz also shared his program for the coming months. He will first do an altitude training camp and then do the Tour of Switzerland, in the hope that he will be in top form at the start of the Tour de France.
