At the end of this month, the shipping channel near the collapsed bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, should be completely free for shipping traffic again. The intention was for the shipping route to function as usual today, but due to poor weather conditions and the complex operation, that deadline was not met.

In late March, a container ship struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge and subsequently collapsed. Six people died.

The ship is still in the way. US Secretary of Transport Buttigieg tells the BBC that he expects the ship to be removed “by the end of May” and the shipping route to be completely free again.

Cause still unclear

The dead were construction workers who were working on the bridge at the time of the collision. The last victim was found and removed from the water on Wednesday.

The investigation to determine the cause of the accident is not yet complete. The FBI is investigating whether anyone should face criminal charges.
