Justin Kluivert may be under the radar of many people in the Netherlands, but the attacker is having an excellent season. On Sunday he led Bournemouth to a club record, as the Premier League club improved its points record. Partly thanks to the ex-Ajax player’s seventh competition goal.

“This means an incredible amount to me,” Kluivert said via the official club channel after the victory over Brighton & Hove Albion. His seventh goal meant he surpassed father Patrick, who scored six in the Premier League. And then there was Bournemouth’s points record (48). ‘I was talking to my girlfriend about it this morning. It was an important day. For me, but also for the club. I corrected my father and made history. I’m very happy with that.’

Bournemouth are now in a creditable tenth place. Level with Chelsea, just behind Manchester United. ‘Delicious. It is also so clear what our plan is, what the coach asks of us and we know exactly what we are doing. We were supreme, against a great opponent. Our team is so strong. And to end with a goal: wonderful. Who knows where this could end up. Three more finals.’

European Championships in Germany
This may end at the European Championship, the analysts at Viaplay noted. Kluivert is one of the Dutch attackers in top form, thinks Simon Cziommer. ‘Especially with the injury of Memphis Depay and, say, Steven Bergwijn, who is not in good shape. This is an option for the Dutch national team.’

“This is a player who always scores goals,” Cedric van der Gun added. He thinks that Kluivert has a good chance of winning the European Championship in Germany. ‘He plays in the left row of the Premier League. That is underestimated. He shows it every week and also makes a difference. He has so much menace. And he is fast, has a sense of depth and is top fit. I can imagine that bigger clubs are also keeping an eye on him.’
