Update Ellen van Dijk did not suffer any fractures in her fall in the team time trial of La Vuelta Femenina. The Lidl-Trek rider said this on Sunday evening Instagram. Her team Lidl-Trek has now confirmed that Van Dijk will start in the second stage of the Spanish stage race.

Van Dijk was the big driving force at Lidl-Trek, which narrowly won the opening team time trial. The American team succeeded despite a fall in the last corner. Here Van Dijk fell together with Elynor Bäckstedt. “This is not the way I wanted to end our team time trial in La Vuelta Femenina,” Van Dijk wrote with a photo after the fall. “But I am very proud of this victory and everyone’s efforts today.”

“Thanks for all the messages. Luckily nothing was broken, I ‘only’ needed some stitches in my chin. Hopefully I will recover as quickly as possible so that I can give 100 percent to the girls this week.”
