The United States and Mexico have withdrawn their bid for the 2027 Women’s World Cup. This leaves two candidates for the organization: Brazil and the trio of the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.

The U.S. and Mexican soccer associations are shifting their focus to the 2031 World Cup. “Hosting a World Cup is a huge undertaking. Additional time to prepare for such a tournament will help us increase our impact,” said Cindy Parlow Cowne, president of U.S. bond.

Mexico and the US, together with Canada, are the host countries of the 2026 Men’s World Cup. Two years later, another major event will take place in the US: Los Angeles will then be the setting for the Olympic Games.

In November, South Africa announced that it would no longer compete to organize the Women’s World Cup in 2027. That country is also focusing on the tournament to be played in 2031.

The upcoming World Cup will be the tenth edition of the global final tournament for women. Last year, Australia and New Zealand hosted the tournament. The Netherlands was already the organizer of the European Championships in 2017. The Dutch team then won the title in their own country.

It will become clear on May 17 who will organize the 2027 World Cup. The allocation will then be voted on at a conference of the world football association FIFA in the Thai capital Bangkok.
