Goalkeeping coach Sander Boschker quits, Arnold Bruggink responds: ‘Sander belongs to FC Twente’ | FC Twente

Sander Boschker will leave as goalkeeper coach at FC Twente after this season. The 53-year-old former goalkeeper has held that position for more than ten years. Boschker, a figurehead of FC Twente, is in discussions with the club about a new role within the staff.

The reason he is quitting has to do with canceling his Goalkeeper Coach 3 course. “I started that this season,” he says. “This diploma is a requirement for every professional football club that plays European football. I have decided not to continue with this and that means that I will stop as a goalkeeper coach at FC Twente. I would like to remain active at FC Twente in a different role, I am discussing this with Arnold Bruggink.”

Arnold Bruggink understands Sander Boschker’s choice. “We respect his choice and are discussing a different role within FC Twente. We would like to achieve that, Sander belongs to FC Twente.”

Boschker made his debut in 1989 in the main squad of FC Twente and eventually played 562 official matches for the club. This makes him the record holder. After Boschker ended his career in 2014, he successively became assistant coach at Jong FC Twente and goalkeeper coach at FC Twente Vrouwen.

He has been active in the first selection since 2018. Boschker became national champion with FC Twente in 2010 and champion of the Kitchen Champion Division in 2019. In 2001 and 2011, the former goalkeeper won the KNVB Cup with the club and the Johan Cruijff Shield in 2010 and 2011.
