David Nascimento (58) will be the trainer of the main squad of FC Den Bosch from July 1, 2024. The Portuguese-Cape Verdean former professional footballer of RKC Waalwijk, FC Utrecht and Sparta, among others, signs a contract for two seasons with the Bossche first division team. Ulrich Landvreugd (52) also makes the switch to FC Den Bosch. The current head coach of SC Telstar has been appointed as assistant coach for the same period.

After his active playing career, David Nascimento held various positions in (international) professional football. For example, he was head of youth development at the South African Memelodi Sundowns and technical director at Apoel FC in Cyprus. Nascimento took the first steps in his coaching career in the youth academy of Sparta Rotterdam, where he was also interim head coach. Nascimento interned for seven months at Louis van Gaal’s AZ and worked as an assistant coach at FC Utrecht and Chivas Guadalajara in Mexico. In Mexico and South Africa, Nascimento had the task of implementing Johan Cruijff’s football vision. Nascimento last worked in the Netherlands as head coach of FC Eindhoven. Since then he has been national coach of the Jordanian women’s team.

David Nascimento about his arrival at FC Den Bosch: “I really wanted to be a trainer again at a club in the Netherlands, the country where I started my coaching career. I am very pleased that FC Den Bosch has become that club. FC Den Bosch is a great club, with fantastic supporters. As a football player I often played in De Vliert. I was there once as a trainer. That was with FC Eindhoven in the 2018-2019 season. We lost 3-1, while FC Den Bosch was the inferior team in that match. But the crowd was behind the home team and was, as is so often the case, a determining factor that evening. I recently saw that again during the match against NAC. I was in the stadium and we need that enthusiasm from the stands. I think that my character and football vision fit in well with what the people of Den Bosch want, namely to see attacking football with fight as a basis. FC Den Bosch still counts. It is our ambition to translate the impetus from the sporting glory days and the enthusiasm from the stands to the field. I will do my best for that.”

Ulrich Landvreugd had to end his career as a professional footballer at the age of 24 due to a serious knee injury. The former footballer of Ajax and Cambuur, among others, then focused on the coaching profession, in which he has been active since 1997 with both youth and senior teams. The English FC Barnet was the first professional club where Landvreugd first worked as an assistant coach and later as a duo head coach. After three years in England, Landvreugd returned to the Netherlands, where he successively held sway for Saturday main division club VV Eemdijk and second division club Hooglanderveen. Landvreugd then became head coach at AFC in his hometown of Amsterdam. He immediately won the championship in his first season (2018-2019). Landvreugd was again an assistant coach over the past two seasons. This time at SC Telstar. In Velsen-Zuid, he was appointed head coach until the end of the football year after the departure of Mike Snoei.

Ulrich Landvreugd: “I was looking forward to a new, sporting challenge and Bernard called at the right time, with the right story for me. Because even though he didn’t want me as bringing in the head coach, his plan and the football vision of FC Den Bosch appeal to me very much. It fits seamlessly with my own ideas about how football should be played and how a technical staff can work together optimally. I have been around for a while and, like David, I still see FC Den Bosch as a renowned club, with a wonderfully fanatical following. Since Bernard linked David, William and me together, We haven’t finished talking about how we want to take steps with FC Den Bosch. I find job satisfaction incredibly important. From the very first moment I have experienced that I am working with like-minded people towards a higher goal.”

FC Den Bosch recently broke open the contract of assistant and currently interim head coach William van Overbeek. The clubman signed until mid-2028.
Goalkeeping coach Denis Jercic has informed FC Den Bosch that he will return to Germany after this season. He wants to spend more time with his family. In any case, performance trainer Damian Korba will remain associated with FC Den Bosch next season. The contract of video analyst Daan Guldemond has been broken up and extended until mid-2026.

FC Den Bosch has opted for experience and complementarity. Technical director Bernard Schuiteman explains the choices: “I see leadership as a partnership and do not believe in a vertically structured staff. In my opinion, a one-man show for the head coach does not fit in with modern professional football. From the new season onwards, we will leave leadership as much as possible to the technical staff as a whole. Each staff member is given more responsibility and the main stage in the area of his specific qualities. They want that and they can handle it. David acts externally as head coach and is ultimately responsible for the first team, but do not forget that with Ulrich and William we have assistants who have proven themselves as head coaches in the KKD this season. To my knowledge, no other club has three head coach level coaches at the helm. These three did not know each other yet, but during the first conversations there was an immediate connection. In addition, we believe that the characters and qualities fit together perfectly and complement each other.”

Schuiteman continues: “I think that with Damian Korba we have the very best performance coach in the division and Daan Guldemond also has an important role within the staff as an analyst. He provides tailor-made solutions on a daily basis that the trainers can use. We are also still in discussions with Anthony Lurling. We really want to get him on the field with the first team for one or two days a week. It would be nice if that works. With him and a new goalkeeper coach we have the picture complete. Every player must get the attention he deserves. There will also be no player who can hide in training next season. I am convinced that this technical staff will bring out the best from the selection.”
