Once again a place of honor for Charlotte Kool in 2024. The sprinter from DSM-firmenich PostNL only had to recognize her superior in the third stage of La Vuelta Femenina on Tuesday in her compatriot Marianne Vos. “Still, I am very happy with the fact that we gave everything,” Kool said afterwards.

The 24-year-old Dutch woman looks back on the ride on her team’s website. “The stage was very tough from the start. To be honest, I didn’t believe in a bunch sprint. On the toughest climb of the day we rode a tight pace, but all in all it went well. With the help of my teammates, I managed to rejoin after the climb. Then Daniek (Hengeveld, ed.) rode well in the chase.”

Kool still had to make every effort in the final to be able to follow. “Visma | Lease a Bike made it as tough as possible on the climbs and punchy finish in the final. However, Juliette (Labous, ed.) and Eleonora (Ciabocco, ed.) did great in the run-up to the sprint. They managed to keep me well in front. However, I lacked legs in the last hundreds of meters. That meant I wasn’t in the best position.”

“I did have the momentum at one point, but that would have been too early. I had to wait and then it turned out not to be enough,” said Kool, who clearly had to acknowledge her superiority in Vos. “It wasn’t enough for the win, but I’m very happy that we gave everything. Hopefully we will get a pure bunch sprint on Wednesday.”
