Max Verstappen will not choose the money when it comes to his future in Formula 1. “It is important for me to have the fastest car. Money will not determine which team I drive for,” the three-time world champion told gathered media in the run-up to the Miami Grand Prix.

In the American city, the Red Bull driver was again asked questions about a possible transfer to Mercedes, which has a seat available due to the departure of Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari at the end of the year. The German racing team is said to have offered 150 million euros. “Those rumors are not true and even if that were the case, money will not make the difference for me. I am very satisfied with what I already earn,” Verstappen said on Formula1.com, among others.

Verstappen has a contract with Red Bull that runs until 2028. But clauses have been included that allow him to move to another team. “For me, performance counts. I know that if I have to drive for fifth or sixth place, I get very grumpy. What matters to me is the fastest car and a good team and I now have that at Red Bull. I believe in that project. But ultimately it is true in sport and in life that you don’t know what can happen in the future,” said the Dutchman, who is also dominating this year with four victories in five grands prix.

The Miami Grand Prix is the sixth race of the year. The drivers will first do a free practice on Friday and then qualify for the sprint race on the circuit built around the Hard Rock Stadium.
