Demi Vollering wins the Vuelta

Demi Vollering has secured the overall victory of the Vuelta Femenina in Spain. In the grueling final stage, the leader of Team SD Worx – Protime made it unequivocally clear that the red leader’s jersey only belonged to one woman this year. Her convincing stage victory at the Valdesquí ski station on Sunday was the icing on the cake.

On the Iberian Peninsula, the 27-year-old rider, who until this weekend could not look back on a very successful season, won a Grand Tour for the second time. In 2023 she was also the strongest in the Tour de France Femmes.

It was the third year in a row that Vollering was allowed to report to the honoring ceremony on the final day of the Tour of Spain. After her third place in 2022 and second place in the final ranking of 2023, Vollering was this time on the highest step of the podium of honor.

That place actually seemed destined for her last year. Friend and foe agreed that Vollering was the strongest rider in that year’s Vuelta. However, the overall victory went to Annemiek van Vleuten after a nerve-wracking duel.
